Selah

Selah

Pause Long Enough to Notice What Is Already Present.

Selah is the signature pause within A Hike With God—a moment to stop moving outwardly, become still inwardly, and make room to listen.

What Selah means here

An invitation, not an interruption.

Drawn from Scripture’s language of pause and reflection, Selah reminds us that stillness belongs within the journey. We do not need to fill every stretch of the trail with words.

During Selah, you may notice your breath, the landscape, a Scripture, a feeling, a question, or nothing distinct at all. There is no correct experience to produce.

A simple practice

Pause. Notice. Listen. Receive.

Pause

Stop or slow your movement safely.

Notice

Attend to your body, surroundings, thoughts, and emotions.

Listen

Release the pressure to answer or explain immediately.

Receive

Hold what comes with openness; let silence remain silence.

Carry Selah home

Stillness can travel with you.

Use Selah before a difficult conversation, during a walk around your neighborhood, between tasks, or whenever life becomes too crowded to hear clearly.

“Sometimes we need to be still long enough to recognize that God was already there.”
